It’s been almost one year since I worked my very first event for Rentboy.com. Picture it: Black Party weekend 2012 at Roseland Ballroom in New York City. I was an even more bright-eyed and bushy-tailed newcomer than I am today, giddy for my moment under the spotlight. I was instructed to prop myself on the go-go box in front of the Rentboy booth to act as twinky eye candy. I was nervous at first but immediately relaxed when I saw the CockyBoys models in the nearby booth wink at me and gave me a thumbs up. After the show was over, I cheerfully thanked everyone for hiring me and couldn’t wait for the next gig.
Now that we’re one month before the 2013 Hookies Awards, I’m sitting at my computer desk at the Rentboy office preparing for the awards show, learning to navigate the network’s system, and drafting posts for our official blog as well as my personal website. I’ve come such a long way from where I started, and all it took was leaning into change and having the courage to challenge my comfort zone.
This has been one amazing journey so far, and my current occupation and extracurricular activities have opened so many opportunities I never thought possible! If you had asked me about last year about considering a career in the sex industry, I would have laughed it off as a farce. How many people can honestly say they love their job? Well, you’ve got one person right here!
